Worked as a Collier in the coal mines of the
Forest of Dean until Brittan's return to the gold standard in 1925
resulted in massive layoffs in the coal mines.

At 24, he married 21 year old Gertrude May
Wilkins on December 23, 1916 at St. Paul's Church, West Dean (at Parkend).
|
|
Gertrude was the sister of Harold James
Wilkins--the husband of George's sister Laura.
|
|
|
|
George immigrated to United States on the
S.S. Berengaria
December 23, 1922 at the age of 30. He arrived in the U.S. with his
brother in law Harold James Wilkins - age 33 and friend William Edward
Wilkins - age 29.
|
|
His wife, Gertrude and their two children,
Sydney George (age 5) and Josephine (age 1), followed George to the U.S.
on July 6, 1923. Gertrude traveled with Laura (Burgham) Wilkins and Iris
Wilkins--the wife and daughter of George's friend--Harold James Wilkins.
