In 1909, at the age of 10, her mother
Minnie (Birt) Burgham died. The family was split up and Stella went to live with her Aunt Laura Pensome, whose
husband was Charles Pensome, a stonemason living at Bailey Hill, Yorkley.

Laura Pensome, who raised Stella, kept a shop
at Yorkley in which Stella helped as a girl, even when she was going to
school (at Parkend).
|
|
|
|
Stella married William Albert Beddis on June 7,
1919.
|
It was shortly after the General Strike of
1926, Stella and William Beddis along with children; Will, Minnie &
Clifford, moved in with Laura Pensome at her home in Bailey Hill, Yorkley.
Mrs. Pensome at that time was widowed, old
and unable to look after herself properly. They reopened the shop which
Mrs. Pensome had used to keep and which was closed for many years. Stella
served in the shop as well as looking after her children who came later
(Joyce, Trevor, Lionel and Margaret). William Beddis (her husband) went around the
Forest selling fish, fruit and vegetables.

When her husband Will died in 1959, Stella gave up the shop in Bailey
Hill, retired and moved to Bream.
|
|
|
Stella died in 1982 in Bream,
Gloucestershire, England
